Jason E. Downey handles a variety of personal injury litigation matters across the entire State of Georgia. He has represented individuals who have been hurt or injured by the wrongdoing of others in trucking, auto and motorcycle collisions, dangerous premises liability matters, and more. Additionally, Jason is a certified mediator for both civil and domestic matters in the State of Georgia.
Jason began his legal career in Macon, Georgia in private practice before taking a job as staff counsel for Allstate Insurance Company, one of the largest auto, property and casualty companies in the world. He handled cases involved automobile wrecks, motorcycle wrecks, premises liability, theft claims and coverage disputes. While at Allstate, Jason handled well over one hundred trials, including over forty jury trials as lead counsel. As a result of his successes at Allstate Insurance Company, Jason was awarded the Allstate National Distinguished Performance Award for exemplary performance in the state of Georgia.
After four years with Allstate Insurance Company, Jason formed his solo practice focusing exclusively on a variety of personal injury matters and civil and domestic mediations. His experience working in the insurance industry helped him build a successful law practice, and he merged with another attorney to become Carr Downey, LLC. In 2014, Jason formed The Downey Law Firm, LLC to focus on representing injured clients throughout the State of Georgia.
Jason is on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA) and has served on the Legislative Committee and as the Chair of the Public Relations Committee for the past two years. He is also a Champion member of GTLA and the GTLA Political Action Committee (PAC). In March 2015, Jason Co-Chaired the GTLA Essential Torts Seminar in Macon, Georgia. He previously served GTLA as a regional Vice-President for two years, as well as chairman of the Premises Liability Track at the GTLA Annual Convention. Jason also is a past-President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of the Macon Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, American Bar Association, William Augustus Bootle Inn of Court and the Macon Bar Association. Jason is a speaker at CLE seminars, GTLA conferences, and has guest lectured at Mercer University on both the undergraduate campus and the Walter F. George School of Law.
Currently, Jason serves as a member of the Bibb County Board of Education representing District 6, the Northeastern area of Bibb County. He was elected to a four-year term in 2012, running unopposed. For the past two years, Jason was selected to serve as the Legislative Delegate of the Bibb County Board of Education to the Georgia School Boards Association. He has been involved in a large number of political campaigns and activities, and was selected as a Delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention, representing the State of Georgia. He has served as a county, district and State Delegate of the Republican Party numerous times.
Jason received his undergraduate degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and his law degree from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia. In his spare time, Jason enjoys watching baseball, playing golf, and spending time with family and friends.
